Each night during the last few months, hundreds of asylum seekers – including families with small children – have had to sleep on the streets of Brussels. This is because the Immigration Office has limited itself to registering only 250 asylum applications per day – which is not enough due to the higher number of applicants coming each day – and because the Belgian government fails to provide enough housing. The “pre-accueil” is full!
As State Secretary for Asylum and Migration, Theo Francken has the power to change all of this. But for that to happen, he needs to hear from you! Together we can demand the government creates a safer and more dignified living environment for people who’ve come to Belgium seeking protection.
Tell Theo Francken that you don’t want any asylum seekers sleeping outside this Christmas season. Sign the petition and urge him to:
- Open up more housing right away;
- Make registration procedures at the Immigration Office efficient and quicker.
